Theatre - In 2001, selected cast of the drama series Yizo Yizo took the "Yizo
Yizo message" on a roadshow sponsored by the SABC and Coca Cola. The roadshow
formed a component of the multi-media education campaign that was spear-headed
by a 13 part television series Yizo Yizo. The second series was broadcast in 2001
and received the highest audience ratings in the history of local television,
with over 4 million viewers a week.
The
Yizo Yizo roadshow consisted of a 45 minute industrial theatre show that was designed
specifically to expand on and re-inforce the messages and spirit of the series.
The show was made up of many short vignettes that used comedy and drama as a means
of communicating with the audience - providing an interactive experience. The
vignettes dealt with sex education, self-affirmation, crime, drugs, vigilante
action, safety and security, community intervention, and learning. Live performances
from kwaito artists Zola, Kaybee, and Thembi, who feature on the Yizo Yizo 2soundtrack,
also formed part of the roadshow.
Bomb
was involved in producing and guiding the content of the roadshow as well as managing
the theatre group.
